Seed innovation with custom 3D printed trays

At 3Delft, we’re driven by the potential of custom 3D printing to enhance industries through practical solutions. Recently, we had the opportunity to collaborate with Evanthia, a breeding company and producer of young tropical plants. With a core business focused on seed production and a dedication to continuous innovation in seed technology, Evanthia approached us to help optimize their seed analysis process.

Together, we developed custom small-scale sowing trays, designed specifically for single-seed analysis. As Evanthia shared with us, “This innovation enables us to efficiently separate seeds post-analysis, facilitating more effective data collection.”

We selected PETG as the material for 3D printing the seed trays due to its durability and water resistance. PETG withstands repeated exposure to moisture without degrading or warping, ensuring the trays maintain their shape and integrity over time. Additionally, PETG’s chemical resistance makes it a safe choice for trays that will be in direct contact with water and soil, reducing the risk of contamination and prolonging the lifespan of the trays in demanding greenhouse conditions.

We’re grateful for the opportunity to work with Evanthia on this innovative project. Their commitment to advancing seed technology inspires us. As we explore new possibilities in 3D printing, we are excited to develop more customized solutions that contribute to progress in the industry.
