Alex Lamp is a volunteer of the e-NABLE network. She gives 3D-printed hands to those who need them. Here at 3Delft, we like to support such communities. That is why we spread awareness to help Alex grow her network. Here is her story:
e-NABLE is a widespread, global volunteer network, that is part of the emerging “connected humanitarians” movement: volunteers using open source methodologies and emerging technologies to develop solutions for under-served populations worldwide. The e-NABLE community is revolving around providing 3D printed hand and arm prosthetic solutions for people in need. These devices are not medical devices, but offer a (temporary) solution for anyone who does not have access to a professional, medical device (yet). Within this community are many sub-organisations either helping local communities – for example the Open Creators Limerick (OCL) in Ireland – or targeting specific Research and Development areas – like the NIOP project, which I am a part of. Within our group of collaborators we developed an upper arm prosthetic solution, that is completely 3D printed.
Since all of this is volunteer work, we are constantly looking for opportunities to involve more people. 3Delft for example have helped me print parts that are too big for my own printer, and I’m looking forward to working with them in the future! If you would like to lend and extra pair of helping hands (be it in the form of knowledge, advice, equipment, time, …) feel free to contact me!
